This realistic sculpture of the male Gyrfalcon is an exceptional World Class work by artist Pat Godin. The Gyrfalcon is the largest of all the falcon species in the world. In this dynamic composition Pat has captured the powerful falcon in its arctic environment. Carved from a solid block of tupelo wood the bird is finished with minute detail. Typical of Pat's painting, the translucent quality of the feathers is clearly apparent and the feeling of light creates a dramatic vignette. To ensure structural integrity over time the bird is supported on legs and feet constructed from steel and bronze. The lichen encrusted rock is also carved from a block of tupelo and painted with artist acrylic paints. Extensive and intensive research is required to ensure anatomical accuracy as well as to create an authentic representation of the bird in its environment. Artistically Pat has incorporated dynamic, diagonal lines in the composition to create tension in the scene. The bird is about to launch itself in pursuit of its next prey. The dimensions of this piece are in a life size scale (H 24" x L 24" x W 18"). Pat generally completes only one such exclusive piece per year usually on commission. The waiting time for commissioned works of this quality usually exceeds two years, and several months of work are required to complete these pieces. This is a rare opportunity for a discriminating collector to own an original, one-of-a-kind piece representing the finest sculpture by Nine-time World Champion Wildfowl Sculptor Pat Godin. You may e-mail Pat Godin with questions or for more images of this piece. |
